Woman, boyfriend held for murdering her mother

The Vizianagaram police in Andhra Pradesh arrested a 22-year-old woman and her boyfriend for allegedly murdering her mother as she was against their relationship and plans of marriage.

avaravalli Rupasri, a B-Pharmacy student and her boyfriend Karrothu Varun Sai (22), a BBM student are residents of Savaravalli village under Bhogapuram police station limits.

The police said that 40-year-old-woman Savaravalli Lakshmi was found dead under mysterious circumstances on May 6.
The police initially registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (suspicious death) and began the investigation.

The investigation revealed that Lakshmi had two daughters and her younger daughter had married to her boyfriend against the wishes of the elders around a year ago, police said.

Recently, Lakshmi came to know that her elder daughter Rupasri too had affair with Varun Sai and she admonished Rupasri over her relationship.

She also refused Rupasri’s plan to marry Varun, they said adding that Rupasri then decided to eliminate her mother with the help of Varun and stage it as natural death.

On May 6, Rupasri and Varun tried to choke Lakshmi to death.

When the couple thought that Lakshmi had died, Rupasri alerted the neighbors.

The neighbours visited Lakshmi’s house and observed that she was still alive.

They admitted her to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam city, where the doctors declared her brought dead.
"Our investigation based on phone conversations between Rupasri and her boyfriend and the CCTV footage established that Varun had visited Lakshmi’s house on May 6.

The lovers later confessed to their crime," said deputy superintendent of police P Anil.
