Olympic medalist and world champion badminton player PV Sindhu will start her campaign at the Tokyo Olympics on July 25 against Ksenia Polikarpova of Israel. World number seven Sindhu has been seeded sixth in the tournament.

Gold medal hopes are high from world champion Sindhu this time. Sindhu was just one step away from gold in the Rio Olympics. Sindhu has got an easy draw this time in the Olympics. She has been placed in Group J. which also includes Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi. Ngan Yi is ranked 34th in the world while Polikarpova is ranked 58th.

Sindhu lost to Spain's Carolina Marin in the final of the 2016 Rio Olympics. Organizers of the Tokyo Games on Wednesday released the schedule for the first two days of the competition.

In men's singles, B Sai Praneeth will take on Misha Zilberman of Israel in his first match of Group D. The match will be played on the first day of the competition on 24 July. Praneeth has been given sixth preference.

In singles, the top player from each group will advance to the knockouts. World No. 10 men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will take on Chinese Taipei pair of Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin in their Group A match.
