
US Open: Mirza, Bopanna advance; Paes-Raja begin their campaign today
Top Indian doubles players, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna have begun US Open campaign with a victory. Fan may be kept glued to their television sets with an Indian pair of Leander Paes and Purav Raja set to feature in this year’s US Open. Paes and Raja will play their 1st round match on Friday as they compete against Serbian pair of Janko Tipsarevic & Viktor Troicki.
While no Indian qualified for singles but they have begun well in doubles category. Top Indian doubles players, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna have begun US Open campaign with a victory. Bopanna-Canvas defeated Klahn-Lipksy of America 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to 2nd round in men’s doubles. On the other hand, Mirza-Peng pair outclassed Croatia’s Martic and Vekic 6-4, 6-1 in the women’s doubles event.

For the first time in three years, Leander Paes would not be participating in the mixed doubles event in the US Open. So his focus will only be doubles and the fans would be expecting something special from the veteran Indian tennis player who had won the bronze medal for India at the 1996 olympics.
