more-in The State Health Department on Saturday launched an app to help citizens find out hospitals and other health services available in their vicinity. The app “Nearby Services”, which is available on the Google App Store, will be of help to citizens looking for centres to take their children for Measles-Rubella vaccination, sources at the Health Department said. “We got many calls from people saying that they had not got their child vaccinated yet, and asking where they should go for the same. While we have been telling people to dial 104 to get this information, it made sense to develop an app to provide this information based on GIS location,” said Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary, State Health and Family Welfare Department. In the long run, she hopes this app will help popularise health services provided by the State government. As many as 2,500 health centres can be located with the help of this app. The app provides information on the nearest hospitals, vaccination centres, blood banks, police stations, trauma centres, and ambulance services available . “While I know a few hospitals in my area or routes I take on a daily basis, to know information on specialised services is hard to get. So such an app would be very useful ... but it should include all hospitals in the area,” says Aabha, a management student. Another citizen said such apps should also give patients’ response and ratings. “Medical apps offering options and other patients’ response and ratings will be handy when it is a challenge to get appointments from doctors at convenient timings,” said Jayashri Ramesh, businesswoman, Dollars Colony, JP Nagar.
