more-in A group of retired and serving lecturers and nature lovers at Malur in Kolar district have come forward to quench the thirst of wild animals. Led by M.V. Nagarajaiah, a retired Biology lecturer, the enthusiasts have formed a group called Prakrithi Balaga (Nature’s Club) to feed animals in the Yeshwanthpur forest area in the taluk. They started the work a few years ago by installing three tanks in the forest that was inhabited mostly by deers, peacocks and wildcats. Realising the intensity of heat in the drought-hit region at this time, the club decided to install more tanks. “Animals too are hit hard by the scarcity of water in the region. Some of them have died by accident while crossing roads in search of water,” Mr. Nagarajaiah told The Hindu. Often, deers fall prey to dogs when they come out of forest looking for water. The tanks, with a capacity of 5,000 litres each, will be filled whenever emptied, which is mostly twice a week. The members of the club share the expenditure themselves. They will supply water throughout the summer.
