Joint Indo-Nepal Army exercise ends

DEHRADUN: The two-week-long Indo-Nepal Joint Military Training Exercise Surya Kiran 's 11th edition concluded in Pithoragarh on Monday. During the exercise, an Indian infantry battalion called Ekta Shakti of the Punjab Regiment and its counterpart, Durga Buksh Battalion from the Nepalese Army, shared their experiences of various counter insurgency operations in their respective countries. Besides training, both the contingents also participated in a number of extracurricular activities including friendly basketball and volleyball matches. "The exercise provided an ideal platform for the personnel of the two countries to share their experiences on counter insurgency operations especially in mountainous terrain and also on aspects of disaster management which frequently affect both countries," said an army officer.The other activities conducted during training included basic familiarisation with weapons and equipment used by both the countries, introduction to organisation, concepts and tactics while operating in counter insurgency environment.
