More funds promised to performing ULBs

Expressing his unhappiness over the poor collection of tax, he exhorted the commissioners to concentrate on the property tax collection and improve the financial conditions. The State is ready to provide funds for improving the basic civic infrastructure in urban local bodies, especially those which have become district headquarters. Plans are being prepared to take up roads, street lighting, solid waste management and other vital works in the urban bodies. Special funds would also be given to the urban bodies which did well in ensuring 100 % open defecation free, provide toilets for each household and remove all the insanitary ones. Mr. Rao was addressing a meeting in the Legislative Assembly where he reviewed the state of affairs in the ULBs of Sangareddy, Siddipet and Medak districts.

Availability of drinking water should be the top priority in the summer months and sufficient funds would allocated for repairing existing borewells and not in sinking new ones as the Government plans to provide water through Mission Bhagiratha from next year. Plans are being prepared to take up roads, street lighting, solid waste management and other vital works in the urban bodies. Municipal Secretary Navin Mittal was directed to ensure water supply through tankers is resorted to if necessary. Special funds would also be given to the urban bodies which did well in ensuring 100 % open defecation free, provide toilets for each household and remove all the insanitary ones. Master Plans are in the process of being prepared for the above mentioned municipalities, he added. Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, CDMA T.K. Sreedevi and others were present.
