Music, play to wrap up festival

An award-winning play and raining music will bring the curtains down on the month-long festival ‘Remembering Veenapani’. The final weekend of ‘Remembering Veenapani Festival’ will begin with a play on Palestine ‘Mein Hoon Yusuf Aur Yeh Hai Mera Bhai’. After a melancholic drama, soulful music will set the rhythm for a closure of the third edition of the festival at Adishakti Laboratory for Theatre Art Research. Massive Vibe Live, produced and with lyrics by Queen Be, will close the festival with their powerful lyrics, music, magnetising visuals and dance for a power packed performance. Directed by Mohit Takalkar, this play has won five Meta awards for best direction and production.

Directed by Mohit Takalkar, this play has won five Meta awards for best direction and production. A powerful, poetic exploration of different forms of love set against the backdrop of the expulsion of 1948 or the ‘nakba’, a devastating and traumatic event for millions of people from Palestine. The play depicts the extreme humiliation these people go through every day of their miserable lives is in itself a traumatic loss. It is a sense of helplessness in the face of the overpowering degrading treatment. After a melancholic drama, soulful music will set the rhythm for a closure of the third edition of the festival at Adishakti Laboratory for Theatre Art Research. The Raghuraman Trio band with Karina Collis on drums, Avishek Dey on bass and Raghuraman Ramasubramanian on guitar have selected a repertoire of jazz to fit the theme and the beauty of the theatre. “Adishakti has always been a special place for us and the tunes will vary from rhythmically complex to the simplest arrangements. The theatre was designed by artistes and it has a life of its own. The music is telling its own story in a language quite uniquely interpreted by the band. With influences ranging from the musical richness of Bach and Mozart to the complexities of jazz to the silences of John Cage,” said Raghuraman. Massive Vibe Live, produced and with lyrics by Queen Be, will close the festival with their powerful lyrics, music, magnetising visuals and dance for a power packed performance. The band has John, lead singer, U.K., George on Sax from U.S., Pete on Keys from U.K., Niketa, dancer from Sweden, Arun on Percussion from India, Vlad on harmonica and trombone from U.K., Kyle, VJ from Australia. They will perform on the last day of the festival.
