A move to bring back the glory of Killiyar

The ‘Clean Killiyar, Save Killiyar’ initiative by ‘Paristhithi-The Friends Nature Kerala’ was flagged off at Karakulam on Wednesday. To mark the beginning of the campaign, bamboo and other saplings were planted on the banks of the Killiyar river. The campaign would be continued by organising collectives in all regions that the Killiyar river flowed through, Paristhithi chairman P.S. The campaigners partially removed the waste dumped on the riverside, and alerted the authorities about the meat waste accumulated in front of the Karakulam villa project. The National Service Scheme unit of NSS college, Nedumangad, Samadarshini library and the NIMS Heart Foundation also participated in the event.

Partial removal Environmental activist Jayachandran Kadambanadu, who inaugurated the campaign, said we were ruining ourselves by dumping domestic garbage in rivers and roads. The campaigners partially removed the waste dumped on the riverside, and alerted the authorities about the meat waste accumulated in front of the Karakulam villa project. The officials concerned arrived at the location and after inspection, assured that the dump would be cleaned up soon. The campaign would be continued by organising collectives in all regions that the Killiyar river flowed through, Paristhithi chairman P.S. Prasanth said, requesting the support of local governing bodies and voluntary organisations for the same. The National Service Scheme unit of NSS college, Nedumangad, Samadarshini library and the NIMS Heart Foundation also participated in the event.
