Venkaiah Naidu questions absence of Sonia, Mulayam in poll drive

"Aj kya baat hai ki Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi aur Mulayam Singh prachar se gayab hain? People have realized that SP and Bahujan Samaj Party are doing politics over caste and religion and not on development issues," the Union minister said. "He said the rural areas in Uttar Pradesh could not develop properly until they are connected to New Delhi. VARANASI: Taking a pot shot at the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union minister Venkaiah Naidu questioned the united front about the absence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi , her Daughter Priyanka and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav from their poll campaign.Naidu was in Sikanderpur in Ballia to campaign for BJP candidate Sanjay Yadav on Thursday. "Aj kya baat hai ki Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi aur Mulayam Singh prachar se gayab hain? (Why is it that Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Mulayam Singh are not a a part of campaigning)," he asked.Talking to reporters, Naidu accused the Congress of breaching public's trust and said, "Congress made Chaudhary Charan Singh, Chandra Shekhar and HD Deve Gowda prime ministers and later removed them for its own interest."He said the rural areas in Uttar Pradesh could not develop properly until they are connected to New Delhi. "The country is developing and attracting investments from foreign countries. But, a big state like UP is still lagging behind. Development is nowhere to be seen except places like Lucknow, Noida and Ghaziabad. People have realized that SP and Bahujan Samaj Party are doing politics over caste and religion and not on development issues," the Union minister said.
