Summary:

Agra: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student Ajay Singh, grandson of BJP MLA Dalveer Singh, on Wednesday demanded security from UP police claiming that his life is under threat. He claimed that recently a Kashmiri student had tweeted in support of Jaish-e-Muhammed after the Pulwama attack.Meanwhile, the AMU Students’ Union remained adamant on its demand for the expulsion of Ajay, even though they had ended their six-day long agitation on Monday. The students’ union has announced that they would hold a protest if Ajay was not expelled by the disciplinary committee in its meeting scheduled on February 23.According to the member of the students’ union, the fracas on campus was the result of schemes by Ajay as he has been targeting the university for the past several months for political gains. He also demanded a fair inquiry by a central agency into the violent clash between two groups of students that took place on February 12.In his memorandum to Aligarh SSP Akash Kulhari, Ajay -- an LLM first year student who was booked by police for rioting and voluntarily causing hurt, on the complaint of AMU security officer -- said there was a threat to his and his supporters’ lives. He claimed that, according to police records, 56 students with criminal cases are enrolled in AMU but instead of taking action against them, the varsity administration is providing protection to them.Ajay said, “The AMU administration and students who were booked in the recent fracas will be responsible if anything happens to me and my supporters.”Ajay alleged that there are many students in the campus who are involved in anti-national activities..
