Set up panels to inspect shelter homes, HC tells district judges

ALLAHABAD: Allahabad High Court has directed all the district judges of the state to constitute monitoring committees comprising three to four members to undertake an inspection of all shelter homes in their district and chronicle their observations with regard to the status and character of infrastructure available, the hygiene levels maintained at the shelter homes as also of the areas and aspects which require upgradation.Hearing a PIL relating to Deoria shelter home case, the court further directed that each monitoring committee shall ensure that a lady judicial officer is co-opted in it.Further, each of these committees will also consist of the secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), the court directed.A division bench comprising Chief Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Varma, which is hearing the matter, also directed that members of the monitoring committee shall interact with the inmates so as to gather requisite information with respect to the general environment of the shelter home and also assess whether dietary, medical and other needs of the inmates are being met.These inspections shall be carried out monthly and reports be submitted on the record of these proceedings for review and issuance of further directions..
