BATHINDA: Terming the NDA government’s claims of historic hike in minimum support price (MSP) of kharif crops ‘mere eyewash’, farmer organization BKU Sidhpur has decided to oppose the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Malout town of Punjab on July 11.The farm body has decided to show black flags to Modi during his ‘Kisan Kalyan Rally’. If the complete cost plus 50% profit was calculated, the MSP should have been Rs 2,226 per quintal,” the body has claimed.Meanwhile, All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), an umbrella organization of 194 farmer bodies from across the country, has termed the MSP as betrayal of poll promise by the Modi government. The farmers asserted that the claims of the Modi government implementing M S Swaminathan recommendations by giving 50% profit over input cost by increasing the MSP of paddy by Rs 200 and 180 per quintal was totally false.“Swaminathan had recommended C2 (comprehensive cost) formula while determining the input cost of crop, whereas the Modi government gone with A2 plus family labour, which was well short of actual cost borne by farmers. The AIKSCC has decided to hold a meeting of a working group on July 13 at Delhi and the general body meeting on July 14, to chalk out future plan for agitation against the government, said farmer organization BKU Dakonda general secretary Jagmohan Singh.Talking to mediapersons at Bathinda on Monday, BKU Sidhpur state president Jagjit Singh Dallewal said, “The Modi government is befooling farmers by making big claims of historic increase but this government is not looking at the increase in prices of various inputs like diesel..
