Ayushman Bharat rolled out in dist at GMCH

Aurangabad: Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), the ambitious medical insurance scheme of the central government, was rolled out in the district on Sunday along with its national launch.Initially, the scheme will be limited to government hospitals and private hospitals will be covered in the later phase. Selected beneficiaries were also distributed e-cards at the launch.The district health department has stated that 2.37 lakh families in Aurangabad district have been covered in the scheme. District health officer Vivek Khatgaonkar said the Ayushman Bharat scheme will be implemented along with the state government’s Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana in the district.“Each of the families in the scheme will have access to medical cover of Rs 5 lakh in a year. “We have sent a request for increasing the pay-scale and incentives,” he added. The other major government hospital in the city is district civil hospital, but it is yet to open its inpatient department.However, the GMCH is perennially suffering with lack of medicines, frequent breakdowns of diagnostic equipment, shortage of super specialists and staff..
