Ironically, the Health Department has failed to inspect and tighten the noose around illegal/unlicensed rehabilitation centres in the city. As per the data procured from the Health Department, of five licensed centres, Jiwanjot Rehabilitation Centre at Talwandi Sabo and Navi Kiran Rehabilitation Centre on Bhagu Road in Bathinda were closed down. Three rehabilitation centres which have been functional include Way to New Life in Maur Mandi, Better Life Rehabilitation Centre on Naruana-Badal Road and government-run drug rehabilitation centre at Industrial Growth Centre. He said the department concerned waits for someone to lodge a complaint with them and only then they take an action. There is no proactive approach from their end to maintain intensive vigil to close down illegal rehabilitation centres, he said..
