Moga police outreach drive proves boon for drug addicts

Tribune News ServiceFaridkot, June 21To mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, the Moga police have initiated a special drive to encourage drug addicts to undergo treatment at Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) or de-addiction and rehabilitation centres. Moga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amarjit Singh Bajwa said the police have launched an outreach programme in association with the Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPO). He said they have been organising seminars and public meetings in different villages to persuade drug addicts to undergo treatment at rehab centres. “Apart from arresting drug peddlers, the purpose behind the drive is to educate people who are vulnerable to drugs and prevent them from falling prey to it,” the SSP said. The SSP said the police have intensified its drive to arrest proclaimed offenders (POs) and as many as 27 POs in the NDPS cases were nabbed from April 2017 to June 2019..
