CHENNAI: The AIADMK government on Thursday released commemorative coins in the denomination of 5 and 100 to mark the birth centenary of former chief minister and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran. The 52ft-high and 66ft-wide rectangular structure is a fusion of traditional and modern architecture on the lines of a diamond jubilee commemorative arch of the TN legislative assembly located nearby. It also opened a commemorative arch on Kamarajar Salai, near the PWD headquarters in Chepauk , to mark the occasion.At an event organized by the government in Dr MGR Medical University, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami released the coins, which his deputy, O Panneerselvam, received. The court had earlier restrained the state from inaugurating the arch, after a PIL was filed alleging violation of statutory provisions.
