‘Golden handshake’ for families opting to move out from MTR core area

Ulaganathan, said that the 701 families were living in seven settlements inside the tiger reserve, and that land had been identified for their relocation. “The lands are prime grasslands, which when restored, will provide plenty of fodder for herbivores populating the reserve,” said Mr.

Ulaganathan. Unlike other tiger reserves and sanctuaries, the three communities, who are moving out of MTR, have volunteered to go of their own accord, forest department officials said. According to officials, almost all the 235 families, who were to be relocated, have already moved into their new homes at Ayyankolli, while the second phase will involve the relocation of 255 more families..
