Army chief inaugurates hostel for soldier kids

Dehradun: Chief minister Trivendra Rawat and Chief of Army Staff Gen Bipin Rawat inaugurated the Garhwal Rifles War Memorial Boys and Girls hostel in Dehradun on Sunday. Another such hostel meant for children of Garhwal Rifles personnel is in Lansdowne.Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Sarath Chand, Colonel of Regiment Garhwal Rifles and Scouts, said, “We have managed to build the hostel in just 18 months. The hostel is meant for children of serving and retired soldiers from the Garhwal Rifles Regiment, as well as those who died in line of duty. Spread over 4.18 acres, the facility was built at a cost of Rs 10 crore.The hostel will accommodate 250 boys and girls from classes 5th to 12th, defence officials said. Having such a hostel in Dehradun will benefit the children of our soldiers, especially those who stay in remote areas.”The hostel has round the clock security, in house medical facilities including doctor on call, recreation facilities including indoor and outdoor sports, personality development classes, fully stocked library, tuition facilities, audio visual room and computer lab, coaching for professional exams, career counselling session and assistance in admission in reputed schools of Dehradun..
