RUDRAPUR: District magistrate of Udham Singh Nagar Neeraj Kharwal on Friday became a social media sensation after he stopped to help accident victims on the Nainital highway. The DM was returning from an official programme when he stopped by the accident spot and rushed the injured to hospital in his official vehicle. Unfortunately, one of the victims passed away after reaching the district hospital.Police said the accident happened between a pick-up vehicle and a mini truck. The pick-up vehicle which was being driven on the wrong side collided with the truck at high speed near River Crest colony.The DM who happened to cross the spot stopped his vehicle and helped to pull out the victims from the vehicles and rushed them to the district hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, the driver of the pick-up was pronounced dead while the mini truck driver is out of danger.Kharwal’s act of kindness immediately became the talk of the town with people sharing pictures of the incident on WhatsApp and social networking sites.
