Rain fury 203 roads blocked in Uttarakhand

DEHRADUN: After four days of heavy rainfall, Uttarakhand witnessed a slight relief on Monday. Two national highways in Uttarakashi, 2 state highways and one highway in Dehradun were also closed for traffic movement.Meanwhile, the Met department has predicted heavy rain at isolated places, especially in Kumaun region for the next two days. It has also issued an advisory which states that commuters and pilgrims moving in the hills and people residing in low lying areas of the plains of Uttarakhand are advised to be very cautious and closely co-ordinate with state government authorities. However, despite the scanty rain, as many as 203 rural roads, few highways and some state roads remained closed for vehicular traffic due to landslides following the rains.Data provided by State Emergency Operation Centre stated that 203 rural roads — 4 each in Bageshwar and Nainital districts, 10 in Almora, 36 in Pauri, 13 in Rudraprayag, 48 in Tehri, 29 in Dehradun, 22 in Chamoli, 21 in Uttarkashi and 16 in Pithoragarh — are closed..
