Doortodoor garbage collection in Dehradun further delayed

Dehradun | Tuesday | 31st July, 2018

Summary:

Municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande said, “We had held a meeting with the company representatives about a week ago and they have been asked to also segregate waste generated in the city.”He added that the company has been asked to set up four to five Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in the city to segregate the re-usable materials from the dry waste and then transport it to the solid waste management plant at Shishambara. DEHRADUN: The outsourcing of door-to-door garbage collection in the city has been delayed further as the agreement between the Chennai-based company contracted for the work and the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) has not been signed yet.The DMC has been planning to outsource garbage collection in the city for over a year and a proposal for it was also passed in the last board meeting of DMC in April where it was decided that the collection would start in June. But it was subsequently pushed to July as the concessional agreement wasn’t negotiated, which the officials had said will be done in a week.DMC officials said that the delay was due to a new clause for solid waste segregation, which was added to the agreement..
