Metro's fight against snags goes to the wire

NEW DELHI: In one its most massive infrastructure overhaul in many years, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC ) is upgrading electrical equipment on the 240km of elevated corridors in its network. “There are only four-five night hours for maintenance,” the DMRC spokesperson said. The DMRC official explained, “Due to pollution, flashing and bird nesting, sometimes the catenary wire gets damaged and causes a short circuit. “We found abnormalities or failures of material in the section between Kashmere Gate and Shahdara. Weather and pollution adversely effect the power components, particularly the electrical overhead equipment, while birds have on many occasions caused short circuits.“The revamp is being undertaken after analysing the incidents that have happened in the recent past..
