Summary:

The fancy bins are withdrawn from the beach stretch as these tend to get toppled owing to rough weather conditions, thus strewing waste around, he added. When questioned, director of tourism Menino D’Souza said that he was unaware of the issue, and would inquire into the matter.. Colva beach is the only place where the bins continue to stand. When questioned, beach cleaning supervisor Shivanand Arjunharijan said that as hoteliers and other vendors who conduct business at the beach tend to dump their garbage in these bins under the cover of darkness, these were being placed only in the morning and later lifted in the evening. However, a visit to the beach during this period indicated that this was not the case. But Drishti Marine CEO, Ravi Shankar said that during the monsoon, regular bins are retained at the main beach entrance point and parking areas. COLVA: The beach stretch from Benaulim to Colva in South Goa seems to have turned binless, as all the garbage bins provided by the tourism department have disappeared from the shore since the last three weeks.Owing to this, locals and tourists visiting this busy stretch have nowhere to deposit their waste and thrash, and are forced to discard it on the shore itself, thereby polluting it.Just before the onset of monsoons, Drishti Marine who was entrusted with the task of cleaning the beach , withdrew the fancy bins that were placed for being delicate in structure, and replaced these with regular Goa Tourism painted plastic bins.Until August, TOI had published stories with photographs showing bins filled with garbage that were not being cleared by the agency. At the beginning of this month, all the bins along the stretch provided by the tourism department were also withdrawn..
