456kg ganja seized in Jind, two arrested

CHANDIGARH: In a major crackdown on drug peddlers, the Haryana Police seized over 456kg ganja (cannabis) being smuggled into Jind district in a truck. A case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against them. Monu, a resident of Jagdalpur , acted as middlemen.The police official said they were interrogating the accused to know where and to whom they were to deliver such huge quantity of narcotics. During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Rajesh and two others were partners in illegal trade and used to bring ganja from Orissa and Chhattisgarh in a truck belonging to Anil, a native of Dhana village in Hansi, and supply it in Jind area. Police also arrested two persons in this connection.An official of the state police department said following a tip-off the truck was intercepted by a team of the crime investigation agency (CIA) near Ramrai village in Jind and on checking 456.87kg ganja was found in the vehicle.It is the biggest haul in Jind this year, the last being of 386kg ganja on August 25.Police said those arrested have been identified as Rajesh of Data village in Hisar and truck driver Kapil of Lohari Raghu village of Hisar..
