53 road accident deaths reported in Ambala since August

AMBALA: Ambala has witnessed 53 deaths in road accidents due to negligence since August this year .As per the data ananlysed, the main reasons behind these deaths are over speeding, structures on roads, helmetless riding, unguided pedestrian crossings and the single narrow roads.The data provided by the police reveals that the district witnessed 53 cases of deaths in road accidents in the past 75 days.Deputy commissioner Sharandeep Kaur Brar said, “We are conducting regular meetings related to traffic rules awareness and also obtaining data from many government and private agencies to reduce the number of fatalities in road accidents. We have also found the functioning of traffic police to be negligent at some places and senior officials have been informed about the same.”City SP Ashok Kumar said, “The number of cases on NH 73 in Mullana area is high as earlier the road was narrow and now the road is widened and after a new by-pass has been developed the commuters drive at high speed leading to the fatal accidents. I have instructed the concerned departments to keep a check on the infrastructure related to the road safety and we have been successful in reducing the number of fatalities.”The most number of deaths have been reported in Mullana on the National Highway (NH) 73 (Roorkee – Panchkula) due to over speeding.The deaths have also been reported on NH 1 (Delhi-Indo-Pak Border) due to over speeding and structures on road from Shashtri Chowk to village Mohri, as there are no proper entry and exit points highlighted on the highway.Rashit Bajaj road safety associate HVZ programme said, “As per our records, the number of fatalities in 2016 was nearly 340, and in 2017 it reduced to nearly 270 after the launch of our programme as we have worked out to identify the black spots and critical spots on the roads in the district..
