Man to serve five years in jail for throwing stones

KURUKSHETRA: Court of additional and sessions judge Rakesh Singh has sentenced a man to five years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 21,000 on him for pelting stones on police personnel. The police had registered the case and started investigation.After hearing all arguments from both sides, the court found Suresh Fauji guilty. The convict has been identified as to Suresh Fauji, a resident Jhirbari village of the district.As per information provided by the district attorney, the incident took place when the police had gone to remove protesters, who were blocking the national highway after accidental death of a woman. As the cops were forcing the protesters to clear the road, some of them started pelting stone on the police personnel.Sub-inspector Surender Singh, who was then in-charge of Thanesar police station, filed a complaint with the police on July 28, 2017, stating that a woman identified as Santro Devi had died in an accident near Jhirbari village and the protesting villagers had jammed the national highway causing inconvenience to the commuters.When the police went to pacify the villagers, they resorted to stone pelting resulting in injuries to many cops, besides government property was also damaged..
