Lawyers extend stir over circuit bench till June 22

JODHPUR: The month-long boycott of judicial work by lawyers in Jodhpur to protest against the demand by Udaipur lawyers for setting up Rajasthan High Court’s circuit bench in Udaipur, has been extended till June 22. Ranawat had appealed to the lawyers to call off the protest and assured them that if any such committee would ever be formed, it would comprise representatives from all bar associations of the state. The protest was expected to be called off on Monday.Protesting lawyers here have now decided to meet chief minister Vasundhara Raje during her scheduled visit to Jodhpur on June 22 and seek an assurance that no committee would be constituted by the state government over the demand for HC’s circuit bench in Udaipur.“We have decided to call off our protest only after meeting the chief minister on June 22 when she is scheduled to visit Jodhpur,” said Kuldeep Mathur, the president of Rajasthan High Court Lawyers Association.Mathur said that the CM had announced to constitute a committee to look into Udaipur lawyers’ demand for circuit bench, now Jodhpur lawyers would seek assurance from her that no such committee would be formed.Interestingly, state law minister Pushpendra Singh Ranawat said that no such committee had been formed when the delegation of lawyers from Jodhpur met him in Jaipur on Saturday..
