The remand time will start at 8 am and end at 8 pm on Sunday. KANPUR: Two weeks after six persons were arrested in the sensational international kidney racket busted in the city on February 17, two more persons were arrested on Saturday for their alleged involvement in the racket in which kidneys were being removed from poor people and transplanted on patients, including foreigners. The two arrested persons have been identified as Shyam Tiwari and Ramu Pandey.Furthermore, a court on Saturday accepted the police petition seeking remand of one Gaurav Mishra, who headed the Uttar Pradesh operations of the racket.SP South Raveena Tyagi said, “The court has remanded Gaurav —one of the accused arrested in connection with the international kidney racket — to 12-hour police custody. The electrician later made a complaint to the Barra police and subsequently the two were arrested,” said a police officer.“As of now, eight accused have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the racket,” he added.“We have booked Shyam and Ramu under sections 420 (cheating), 342 (wrongful confinement), 370 (trafficking) and 120-b (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and relevant sections of Transplantation of Human Organs Act. Both have been sent to jail,” said Inspector Barra Atul Kumar Srivastava.Police said Gaurav was a key person from UP and used to coordinate with one Shailesh, one among the six arrested on February 17.The police had busted the racket on February 17 in the city and arrested Gaurav of Lakhimpur Khiri, T Rajkumar Rao of Kolkata, Shailesh Saxena of Badarpur, New Delhi, Saboor Ahmad of Kakori, Lucknow, Vicky Singh of Panki, Kanpur and Shamshad Ali of Chowk, Lucknow. We would try to gather maximum clues from Gaurav during the remand period.”Going by the investigations so far, almost all donors have accused Gaurav of trapping them, getting their kidney extracted and later transplanting the organs on others. However, they all were cheated by Gaurav, who never gave them the promised money in lieu of their kidney. He had also lured Ramu, who along with Shyam was arrested from Naubasta area of the city on Saturday.Gaurav got the kidney of Ramu extracted in 1999 and since then there was no looking back.Later, Ramu too started working for Gaurav and cheated many donors till date.“Shyam, who used to work as a driver at a furniture shop in Kidwainagar area of the city, had also lured an electrician, employed at the same furniture shop, to sell the kidney of his wife..
