SEC orders fresh probe into voters' list anomalies

Lucknow | Tuesday | 19th December, 2017

Summary:

"This clearly showed that laxity was very much there in preparing the voters' lists," the commission said in its observation. Garg in his report said the delay was because of a software which did not have the provision of identifying the BLOs for voter slip distribution duties. This was done in all other districts except Lucknow, the commission observed. The commission also said that the district administration also appeared callous by not deploying BLOs/supervisors who had a prior experience of election duty. Agarwal, who ordered the probe into voters' list anomalies and has now demanded fresh report, will retire on Tuesday. The finding, which is part of the report submitted with the SEC last week, comes nearly 20 days after the SP-led opposition accused the BJP of tampering with the voters' lists for political gains during civic elections. The commission cited various instances of people being denied of their voting rights after their names got misspelled..
