Ludhiana: Residents would soon be able to enjoy biscuits and namkeen items prepared by inmates lodged in Ludhiana Central Jail. By next week, the jail authorities would start selling packed thali of jail food in Rs 80 for residents. But manufacturing of namkeen items was stopped due to the non-availability of funds to purchase raw material. To restart production, Randhawa gave a grant of Rs 3 lakh for purchase of raw material.Items kept at Markfed counter would be sold to the public as well as jail inmates. Jail minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa approved the proposal during his visit to the jail on Saturday.Randhawa inaugurated a Markfed counter where besides other products, residents would be able to buy items made in the jail.During his visit to factories, Randhawa and additional director general of police (prison) Rohit Chaudhary realised that these items could easily be sold in the market.As of now, biscuits made by inmates are consumed by inmates and the rest is sold to other jails in Punjab..
