Minister ropes in NGO to counsel jail inmates

Ludhiana: Taking note of increasing cases of suicides and clashes inside Punjab jails, jail minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Saturday sought help of an NGO to conduct a survey on mental health of inmates and start a rehabilitation centre thereafter.Accompanied by representatives of NGO Roundglass Foundation, Randhawa took a round at the Ludhiana Central Jail on Tajpur Road.The NGO has meanwhile suggested to start yoga, meditation, counselling and sports activities to engage jail inmates.Further the inmates might also be involved in organic farming.Official said as the lone counsellor is a woman, most inmates hesitate in sharing their feelings and issues with her.Randhawa said, “We will try to make Ludhiana a model rehabilitation centre with the help of the NGO..
