MANGALURU: To enable building of intellectual and research capacity in forensics, St Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC), Addis Ababa Ethiopia , entered into a MoU with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) recently, where a general agreement and also specific areas on Forensics was signed.This is the third in line by the Department of Forensic Medicine, KMC, Mangaluru after Lyon University, France and Mekelle University, Ethiopia.Dr B Suresh Kumar Shetty from the Department of Forensic Medicine said the objective of the MoU is to consistently engage in research in all who have mutually agreed. They are: To initiate an Exchange Fellowship and Training programme for Residents in Forensic Medicine, with practical knowledge about the intricacies of Forensic pathology; Exchange of academic personnel; Cooperative development activities; Cooperative design of courses, conferences, symposia or academic programmes and Exchange of academic or scientific materials and publications of common interest.The MoU envisages to build and maintain an updated knowledge data base in the field of forensics both in India and Ethiopia and to support Ethiopia in building a premier centre in the field of forensics. The MoU proposes to strengthen the working capacity and build an enabling environment for the St.
Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College.Program Director Prof Balkachew Nigatu, Assistant Professor of Ob-Gyn and Forensic Head, Dr.
Enyew Debash, Specialist of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology of St.
Paul Millennium, said the MoU will contribute to upgrading the training content on Pathology, Criminology, Odontology, toxicology and structured approach towards in the field of forensic and devise various strategies to strengthen the overall environment to combat crime cases in Ethiopia.The exchanged MoU is towards the synergy of the two Institutions helping in evolving a learning process which will mutually be beneficial to both Institutions and an overall capacity building in Ethiopia.The MoU between the two was attended by, Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor, MAHE, Dr M Venkataraya Prabhu, Dean, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru, Dr Raghu Radhakrishnan, Director International Collaborations, MAHE, Dr Alfred J.
