Sell empty gunny bags of MDM food items, use for better meals, schools told

Meerut: After getting a whiff of a scam that empty gunny bags of food items supplied for midday meals in schools are being sold and the money being pocketed for personal use, the Midday Meal Authority (MDMA) has instructed that all the empty gunny bags be sold in a transparent manner, the best price fetched from their sale and the money utilized for enriching the meals served to students.“Empty gunny bags will be disposed of by the school management in a transparent manner so as to fetch the best price and their sale proceeds should be utilized only for further enrichment of the midday meal programme. The money collected after the sale of these gunny bags should be utilized for purchasing containers for spices and condiments, oil and other food ingredients so that they are kept covered,” said Ahmed in his order.The money should also be used for purchasing more nutritious items other than the midday meal, and painting of the menu on the school wall, the order read.“Necessary items to develop a kitchen garden in the school premises can also be purchased from the money that is gathered after the sale of gunny bags..
