Mumbai: Girl receives extortion threat mail; lodges FIR at Sion

A 21-year-old girl has approached the Sion police after she received an anonymous mail which tried to extort money from her claiming that her mail account was hacked and in order to prevent data leaks further, she would have to pay the money in form of bitcoins. The complainant who is a resident of Sion is pursuing her studies and is also a teacher by profession. Last week she saw a mail in spam folder which stated that her account was hacked, all her mobile data was compromised and it could be misused in future. However, the victim did not pay the extortion and she approached the police the next day. Further investigation of the case is underway and no arrests have been made so far," said senior police inspector of Sion police station, Lalita Gaikwad..
