India has sound ties with Australia: Envoy

Nagpur: India had informal diplomatic relations with Australia even before independence which were strengthened after the country got freedom in 1947. Successive governments cultivated diplomatic and cultural ties since then, said AM Gondane, Indian high commissioner to Australia, on Friday.Gondane was delivering a talk on ‘Indian foreign policy and Indian foreign service’, organized by Nagpur University at Convocation Hall. Nehru was the main founding fathers of the Panchsheel, he added.The envoy spoke on domestic policy and foreign diplomacy. India joined the Commonwealth of Nations under the leadership of Nehru and supported independence movements in British colonies, he said. Gondane’s lecture will serve the purpose of inspiring students of Nagpur University to prepare for foreign services, become diplomats and make the nation proud, he said..
