Noida residents, social organisation to protest against SC/ST Act

NOIDA: Following the recent fracas over the arrest of an ex-serviceman under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989, local residents' body, industries and social organisations (Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations -FONRWA, Noida Entrepreneurs Association - NEA, local Brahman Samaj Seva Samiti, Agarwal Mitra Mandal etc) raised a demand for the implementation of Supreme Court ruling of (March 20, 2018 by Justice A K Goel and U Lalit) to ensure proper investigation before an FIR is lodged under SC/ST Act . There are many people from upper castes who live in poverty and are in need of benefits that come from reservation. The complaint mentioned caste based harassment apart from local neighbourly issue. The local bodies will present a memorandum to district magistrate on the matter on Thursday following a protest march (against the Act as it currently stands) from Noida stadium gate number 4 to DM office in sector 27 “We have been pained to see how the SC/ST Act was misused of late. The said Act needs to be modified on two counts..
