Sharda University row: 2 members of fringe outfit booked

The DM on Friday convened a meeting with the Sharda University management, Kashmiri students and Afghan students to resolve the issue.The DM said a minor students’ quarrel had been flared up by some anti-social elements. Noida: Two activists of a fringe group were booked on Friday after the district magistrate directed police to take action against anti-social elements for allegedly breaching peace on the Sharda University campus and giving a racial colour to a minor argument between two student groups.While Deepak Sharma of Rashtriya Swabhimaan Dal was booked under sections 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot) and 295A (insulting religion or religious beliefs) of the IPC and under Section 66 (sending offensive messages) of the IT Act, Ved Nagar of Gau Raksha Hindu Dal was booked under Section 66 of the IT Act.The students claimed there was a heated argument on a WhatsApp group between an Afghan student and an Indian student of BBA programme.The district magistrate has recommended that Sharma, who allegedly led a mob on the campus and posted derogatory messages on Facebook, be booked under National Security Act too..
