Rain returns to parts of state; monsoon advance 5 days away

Pune | Monday | 18th June, 2018

Summary:

As per the department’s June 21 forecast, very heavy rains may lash isolated places in the Konkan-Goa region and heavy rains may occur at isolated places in Maharashtra.“One or two spells of light rain are also expected to occur in Pune during the next few days. The ongoing rains in parts of the state are a result of an offshore trough at mean sea level from the coast in south Maharashtra to the Kerala coast as well as a cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra and its neighbourhood. Conversely, places, where the monsoon is yet to enter, are not receiving any rain,” a weather official said. The official added that heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in the Konkan-Goa region and heavy rains at isolated places in Madhya Maharashtra, among other regions in peninsular India, are expected on June 20. Pune: Though the southwest monsoon’s further progress into the country is still some days away, rain has restarted in certain parts of the state.Beginning June 20, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are expected to get fairly widespread rains, said the officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).The Met department officials said though the monsoon’s revival may take another five to six days due to the prevalence of a "weak" monsoon pattern, some places in peninsular India, including coastal Karnataka, Konkan and other parts of Maharashtra have already begun to receive some rains.“Even though we do not expect the monsoon to advance during the next five days, the places where the monsoon has already entered are receiving rains — like parts of central and peninsular India..
