Duo thrash grocery store owner in extortion bid

PUNE: The Hadapsar police booked two men on Monday for thrashing the owner of a grocery store while attempting to extort Rs50,000 by threatening to shut down his shop near Mantarwadi Phata around 8.30pm on February 9.The suspects have been identified as Ganesh Modak (22) and Mayor Modak (25), both from Hadapsar.The owner of the store, Lalaram Ghisaram Chaudhary (43) from Phursungi, had to be rushed to a hospital for treatment. “Ganesh was released on bail but we will be moving to court to cancel it as violated the bail conditions by committing another offence,” inspector Krantisinh Patil from the Loni Kalbhor police said.Senior inspector Sunil Tambe said, “We have launched a hunt for arresting the suspects at the earliest.” “When Chaudhary refused to comply, they hurled abuses and thrashed him,” a police officer said.The FIR stated, “The suspects had threatened to hang Chaudhary upside-down and attack him on his head, hands and back as well as fling a chemical substance on his body to kill him.”This is the second FIR registered against Ganesh Modak..
