Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency which witnessed a record polling percentage of 66.33 in the last General Elections (2014) had once recorded just 29.98% (lowest voting percentage ever recorded in this constituency) in the 1971 polls. The 2014 Lok Sabha poll saw the seat won by saffron camp’s Bidyut Baran Mahato, who dumped JMM just before polls. In the 1971 LS polls Congress retained the Jamshedpur seat. In the 1967 LS polls SC Prasad of Congress had defeated CPM’s U Mishra by a margin of 40,702 votes.Between 1962 and 1984 Lok Sabha polls, Jamshedpur seat was either in Congress or Left parties kitty.
