Efforts on to resolve Pong Dam ousteesrsquo issues

SHIMLA: Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said that all out efforts were being made by the state to resolve the long pending issues of Pong Dam oustees with the Rajasthan government for the allotment of land. He said that the Supreme Court had decided the matter in favour of Himachal Pradesh, so the state would take its due share.Rajasthan chief secretary DB Gupta and Himachal Pradesh chief secretary Vineet Chawdhry had held a meeting on August 3 in Jaipur to discuss the pending issues of Pong Dam oustees. The dam is the direct source of water for the Indira Gandhi Canal Project (IGNP) in Rajasthan. He said that the Rajasthan government wants to allot land to oustees at Jaisalmer while the state government was demanding allotment of land in Sri Ganganagar as land here was fertile. He said that already a chief secretary-level meeting had been held between the two states and now the chief ministers of both states would meet in the coming days to resolve the matter..
