SMC plants 7000 saptaparni saplings planted in creeks

The saplings were planted a few days ago near Gandhi Kutir, Althan khadi bridge, Bhimrad khadi bridge, Jivan Jyot khadi bridge and Mithi khadi bridge in the city.“We are doing this to reduce the smell of polluted water in the area. SURAT: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has started planting saptaparni saplings on the two sides of 7km long khadi stretch in Athwa, Udhna and Limbayat municipal zones of the city. Such night plants give beautiful smell and also oxygen, thus helping keep the environment healthy. SMC adopts different plantation approach for different areas looking to the specific needs of the place. We have already planted nearly 7,000 plants in these three municipal zones,” said Dr S Gautam, garden superintendent, SMC.Officials said the second phase of plantation would be done in the open spaces on both sides of the khadis soon..
