Over 15,000 idols immersed in Thane on 5th day of Ganeshotsav

"Few residents who had installed mud idols decided to immerse the idols in our area rather than take them to natural lakes as has been the practice. Though, the response is low this time, we expect few more to join this initiative next year on. The idea of reducing pollution in our waterbodies needs to be given a serious thought,” said Hemant Karekar, a resident who initiated this project. THANE: As many as 4,000 domestic and sarvajanik Ganpati and Gauri idols were immersed at the various visarjan sites in the city on Monday evening with officials adding that a notable number seem to be opting for eco-friendly immersions this year.There were nearly 15,741 idols scheduled to be immersed at the various immersion ponds in the city on Wednesday on the occasion of the fifth day of Ganeshotsav.
