This Kerala panchayat blends organic farming with floriculture

Nedumangadu block panchayat was the first to hold organic sabha for organic farming and floriculture together in the state. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nedumangadu block panchayat, which has recently launched an agro-entrepreneurship scheme, has now come up with a project to integrate organic farming and floriculture. Titled Vallam nira, the project blends organic farming with floriculture and promotes it as an employment opportunity for each household.On special occasions, four types of organic vegetables will be made available in 25,000 houses. The organic sabha is being convened in September and October to finalise second level of the project. The project aims to realise organic village through Kudumbasree and sale of additional vegetables and flowers from each house through stalls after it is collected via organic village.The project will ensure that fifty percent of households in one village panchayat will be covered under this scheme..
