Civic expo to showcase recycling options, biodegradable products

Portable biogas plant and models of green bins (waste converted into compost) available will be displayed for the public to engage in sustainable SWM practice,” a corporation official said.“Degradable plates, cups, and straws made of corn starch and sugarcane bagasse will be displayed to replace the plastic products,” M Marimuthu, representative of a bio-friendly plates manufacturing firm, to host a stall in the exhibition said.Education institutes with hostel facility, hotels, residents welfare associations, non-governmental organisations and gated communities were invited by the civic body to attend the exhibition. Trichy: Trichy Corporation will host two-day Solid Waste Management (SWM) exhibition here on August 4 and 5, with an objective to display the plausible platforms available for bulk-waste generators to recycle waste and use environment friendly products instead of plastic.Hundreds of biodegradable products and waste recycling mechanism will be displayed during the first of its kind expo in the city.Over 40 firms involved in waste recycling will participate in the exhibition to be held at Karpaga Rakshagi Mahal at Reynolds Road in Cantonment.Even as the ban on usage of less than 50-micron plastic carry bags is in effect, a section of traders continue to circulate the banned plastic carry bags citing the ‘low-cost’ factor.Besides, bulk waste generators like restaurants are reluctant to opt for biodegradable plates and cups made of paper and palm leaves..
