Nagapattinam: Sleuths of the prohibition and enforcement wing (PEW) in Mayiladuthurai arrested a minor girl for possession of 110 litres of arrack on Thursday. As part of the crackdown on illicit liquor sellers, police also tried to arrest the woman. The raid was necessitated following instructions given by top police officials from Chennai after Kilvelur constituency MLA U Mathivanan of DMK raked up the issue of prevalence of illicit liquor in this constituency.Police said the girl’s mother was notorious for selling illicit liquor in the area for many years. The girl was released on bail later in the evening.The PEW sleuths caught the girl at her house in a village near Kuthalam in Nagapattinam district and seized the arrack stored in sachets for sale in the black market. Since she absconded, they detained and arrested the girl.Police registered a case under two sections of Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act..
