As Krishna swells in district, 5,000 cusecs water released

Vijayawada: With heavy rains in the catchment area of Krishna River, officials of irrigation department on Saturday lifted seven crust gates by one feet and released 5,075 cusecs water to the sea. Officials are releasing excess water to the sea and alerted villages in downstream as there is a chance of huge inflows in coming two days. Prakasam Barrage , which is receiving inflows from the Godavari through Pattiseema lift irrigation project, received huge inflows from Thursday night and officials released 11,074 cusecs water from all the three canals which include eastern canal, western canal and Guntur channel. Special teams of Krishna district administration asked residents of Pamula Lanka and island residents to be vigilant.District administration alerted fishermen not to enter sea with the warnings of Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).Chatrai of Krishna district received 2.8 centimetres rain on Saturday and district received an overall surplus of 55% this season.Meanwhile, Prakasam Barrage turned into a hangout place for the denizens.
