Indian ace shuttler PV Sindhu has been on a terrific form since her silver medal win at the Rio Olympics 2016, winning the Korean Open Super Series and clinching silver at the World Badminton Championship. Sindhu’s consistent performance has helped her jump two places to the second spot in the Badminton World Federation women’s singles rankings. In 2017, Sindhu played 32 matches, winning 25 and 7 losses.
Things get even better as the shuttler has been nominated for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by the Sports Ministry. She is the second athlete after cricketer MS Dhoni to have been nominated for the honour this year. Sindhu joins Saina Nehwal and national team coach Pullela Gopichand to become the third shuttler to be conferred the Padma Bhushan.
The 22-year-old had already been awarded Padma Shri Award, the fourth highest civilian honour in 2015, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2016 and Arjuna Award in 2013.
