India’s ace shuttler HS Prannoy and Saina Nehwal have crashed out of the China Open Super Series after losing their respective matches in Shanghai. The World no.11 HS Prannoy was outclassed by an opponent ranked 53 in the world. China’s Cheuk Yiu Lee thumped Prannoy in straight games and won the match 21-19, 21-17.

While Saina lost to World Number 4 Akane Yamaguchi in straight games.  The Japanese entered the round three of the competition after recording a 21-18, 21-11 win over Saina. This was also their first meeting on the international circuit.

All Indian shuttler has been knocked out of the tournament apart from PV Sindhu. India’s only hope of silverware, Sindhu will be up against an easy opponent in Chinese qualifier Yue Han, and considering the performances she has shown so far, it would be a major upset if the Indian is beaten.
